En el marco de la exposición “Forms of Devotion: Arte y espiritualidad de la India de hoy”, conferencia inaugural a cargo de la comisaria de la exposición Sushma K. Bahl.


Sushma K. Bahl , author of ‘5000 Years of Indian Art’ published in English and Chinese editions, besides half a dozen other books, and former Head, Arts & Culture, British Council India; is an independent arts adviser, writer and curator based in Delhi. She is credited with initiating and leading on several significant creative projects across various art forms, creative domains, culture and education and involving international collaboration including the festivals of India held in the UK in 1982 and South Korea in 2005. Sushma was the Project Consultant for Sangeet Natak Akademi’s national theatre festival Rang Swarn in 2003, Lalit Kala Akademi’s Golden Jubilee Programme in 2004/5, Guest Director for XI Triennale-India 2005, Co-festival Director for City Stories Katha Asia International Utsav 2006, the National School of Drama’s international theatre festival BRM XII in 2010 and Jury Member for the 14th Asian Art Biennale Dhaka; in 2010. She has conceptualized and curated a series of landmark exhibitions including India- ASEAN-Indian Artists’ Residency 2012, ‘Yoga Chakra’ project in 2015 and Commissioner for SCZCC 29th National Contemporary Art exhibition in 2016. Most recently she has curated ‘Forms of Devotion’ a large ongoing international art project for the Museum of Sacred Art in Belgium, launched in Delhi and Bangkok in 2015, shown at the China Art Museum in Shanghai and currently touring Spain until January 2017. As arts advisor to Old World Hospitality Habitat Center Delhi, Times Internet Ltd in Gurgaon, Modi School in Jaipur, and Bajaj Capital Art House in Delhi, she has directed several art education initiatives and cultural projects. Sushma also writes for various Indian and international art publications and journals and gives lectures on Indian culture, arts, crafts and heritage. She is currently working on a couple of cultural projects including a book on arts and crafts of India. Recipient of British Honour MBE- Member  of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire- for her contribution to India-UK cultural collaborative work, and the IHC Art India Award for her curation of Ways of Seeing art exhibition; Sushma is a member of the Paris based International Association of Art Critics (AICA) and a trustee/advisory committee member of Abhyas Trust and Kala Sakshi Trust , both in Delhi, Arts Acre Foundation in Kolkata, Harjai Global Gurukul in Mumbai, and Kerala Museum in Kochi.
