The permanent seminar of Kalasangam stage arts and music offers professional training in dance, theatre and music from the India.The Casa de la India (India House), with this initiative, wants to be a meeting place (sangam) of the arts (kala) for future experts (rasikas).
The seminar aims to cover the gap in our country with regard to professional studies in the performing arts from India and also spread their study in professional schools of dance, theatre and music. India’s aesthetic Theories and other aspects of culture such as Philosophy, Religion and History are essential to understand, practice and enjoy the art. This theoretical and practical seminar provides us the opportunity to learn about aspects that are essential to India’s arts appreciation and art in general.


The permanent seminar of Stage Arts from India comprises 60 hours of classes including: regular classes about a range of dance and theatre styles as well as master classes and intensive workshops by artists and teachers which were invited to our headquarters. In addition to these courses, there are various complementary activities such as visiting the Casa de la India’s library collection on performing arts, demonstrations and performances .

2011 October - 2012 June

Regular classes cover all the essential aspects of India classical dance. On one side the traditional method of learning based on the Natya Sastra and Abhinaya Darpana, India’s treaties arts are followed and secondly the principles acquired in the individual and contemporary creation and are applied.

  • Course of Bharata Natyam Classical Dance level I (30 hours). Practical classes and theoretical introduction to India’s stage arts. Aesthetic principles, Mythology and History. Practical classes: physical training exercises, rhythm and movement, basic positions and rhythmic steps: Adavus, Mudras (hand gesture), Abhinaya or the expression art: face, eyes and body language, Bhavas or nine moods, the poetic text in dance and gesture. Gestural and rhythmic translation of texts.

     Timetable: Saturdays from 11:30 to 12:45

  • Course of Bharata Natyam Classical Dance level II (30 hours)

     Timetable: Saturdays from 12:45 to 14:00

  • Introduction to India Dance for children from 7-12 years old (20 hours)

     Timetable: Saturdays from 10:30 to 11:15

Intensive workshops about Mohiniattam, Kathak, Odissi style of classical dance, Kathakali Theatre and Kalaripayyattu (martial arts) during the 2011-2012 academic year. The workshops will be announced in advance. Casa de la India’s headquarters permanently gets artists from India who are touring across Europe. The most of the tours of great art masters are organized by the Government of India in which the cultural and artistic wealth of this country is shown. These dance, theatre and music companies, in addition to acting at Casa de la India’s headquarters or other scenic places of the city, teaching to the general public and initiated students in workshops and master classes.


Interested persons may enrol in the Casa de la India and the payment will be made in the bank  or by credit card in their own Casa de la India. They may also split the payment of the course in two: at the beginning of the course and in the first three days of February.
